The main themes of The Shape of Things deal with the nature of stoicism, arts, intimacy, exploration of love and the human desire to do things for love. The action takes place in a small American university town and tells the story of a young female visitor of a museum that was shily reprimanded by a custodian which led to a idyll. The two of them date one another and the man undergoes a transformation that infuriates his friends. The young visual arts student treats her partner like a guinea pig, transforming him into a live sculpture.
